Thoughts about Hand-me-downs

I get so excited when I get a box of hand-me-downs.

It’s like a treasure chest. Full of stuff to be discovered. Like a rummage sale and freebies combined.

Turquoise rain boots, tie-dye shirts, a pair of jeans, gloves, socks, running shoes. And those safari pajamas are just the best! If you’re really lucky, you may even find a warm, cozy winter coat.

It’s a win-win-win. Great for the giver; great for the recipient; great for the environment.

In that box (or bag) I had just been given, there’s so much more than meets the eye. And I’m not talking about the clothes or shoes or books hidden at the bottom of the box. I’m not talking about anything tangible, really. I’m talking about the care and thought that went into it, about the money I just saved, about a second-life the items in the box will be given, about the concept of reusing. This is holistic.

I will say it loud and clear: Thumbs up for hand-me-downs!
