Product Description
Great Lakes Unflavored Beef Gelatin
Great Lakes pure gelatin powder is sourced from healthy grass-fed cows. It’s comprised of high quality cooked beef collagen, reduced to a pure protein powder. This is the same type of gelatin that you may see when you cool your homemade bone broth.
When added to liquids, the gelatin will cause them to gel at lower temperatures, making it ideal for various homemade treats such as jello, fruit snacks, marshmallows and gummies. It can also be used to add extra richness to homemade broths and gravies.
Kosher. No MSG. Gluten free.
Instructions: Dissolve in hot water prior to use.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN COLLAGEN AND GELATIN?
Nutritionally, collagen and gelatin both have similar protein levels and amino acid profiles. Both collagen and gelatin are flavorless. The main difference is in how they are used.
Gelatin dissolves in hot liquid and will gel when chilled. It’s great for making your own healthy jello, gummy bears and fruit snacks. It can also be used in small amounts to thicken sauces or gravy.
Collagen Hydrolysate dissolves in hot or cold liquid and doesn’t gel when chilled. It can be added to hot or cold foods such as soups, smoothies, juices, etc. Hydrolized collagen is easily digested and assimilated by the body, which supports the body’s natural healing.
DO THE COLLAGEN AND GELATIN COME FROM GRASS FED ANIMALS? IS IT ORGANIC??
All cattle graze freely on natural grasslands and are totally grass fed, with no supplement feed. The Collagen is sourced from Brazil and the Gelatin from Argentina. The pastures there are organic by default as those areas don’t use pesticides, herbicides, etc. They also don’t practice the use of administering antibiotics, hormones or growth hormones.
DO THEY CONTAIN ANY GLUTEN?
Great Lakes gelatin and collagen hydrolysate are gluten free. They also have no MSG, and they are certified Kosher.
WHY SHOULD I CONSUME COLLAGEN OR GELATIN?
Commercial gelatin has been used for many years to help with ‘hair, skin and nails’. But the benefits don’t stop with the cosmetic effects. The connective tissues throughout the body need collagen. This includes, but certainly isn’t limited to, the bones, joints and the digestive tract. Unfortunately as we get older our bodies tend to lose collagen. This is the reason why adding foods rich in collagen, such as bone broths, and supplemental collagen/gelatin is good for our health. Click here to learn more about gelatin.. As with any new food or supplement, it is best to introduce it to your diet slowly.
ARE THE NUTRIENTS IN COLLAGEN THE SAME AS IN BONE BROTH?
While collagen does have an amino acid profile similar to bone broth, it doesn’t have the minerals. Great Lakes Gelatin and Collagen Hydrolysate come from the beef hide, not the bones. So these products can be used as an additional supplement to food sources. In fact many of our customers add collagen to their daily mug of bone broth.
