Cheese FAQ

Calendar

HOW LONG WILL THE CHEESE LAST IN THE REFRIGERATOR? CAN I FREEZE THE CHEESE?

Unopened packages of cheese can be kept in the refrigerator for several months, even a year or more. The cheese will age and have a stronger flavor with time. To avoid this aging, the cheese can be frozen, then thawed slowly in the refrigerator when ready to use.

Once opened the cheese should stay fresh for a month or longer when wrapped tightly and kept in the coldest part of the refrigerator.

No BPA

WHAT ABOUT BPA IN THE PLASTIC PACKAGING?

The plastic Cryovac bags that the cheeses are packaged in are BPA-free.

GF

DOES THE CHEESE HAVE ANY GLUTEN? IS THERE A RISK OF GLUTEN CROSS CONTAMINATION?

The cheese doesn’t have any gluten and the packaging facility is gluten-free.

A2

IS THE CHEESE MADE FROM A1 OR A2 MILK COWS?

The cheese is made only from the milk of Jersey cows. Although the cows have not been tested, Jerseys are an older heritage breed and are known to be A2 producers.

No GMO

ARE THE CHEESES ORGANIC, FROM GRASS FED COWS AND GMO-FREE?

Farmstead Fresh doesn't use ingredients that may contain GMOs. The cheeses are not labeled as organic, but do come from Jersey cows that are raised on Amish farms, and go far beyond organic.

These farms use no pesticides, artificial fertilizers, or synthetic hormones. The cows only graze on grasses. In the colder months, they enjoy hay made from the same pastures they have enjoyed during the rest of the year. The addition of nutritious sprouts rounds out their diet. They are not given any grain.
