The world doesn’t always revolve around me, phew!

I was invited to a baby shower.

But I hardly know anybody there.

What if I don’t have anybody to talk to? That would be awkward.

I’m not even sure what to bring. I’ve never been to a baby shower before.

For a split second I’m contemplating the option of not going at all, but then I think about it again.

The couple hosting the baby shower had been trying to conceive for a long time. I don’t know them that well, but I do know it hasn’t been easy for them.

Going to this baby shower is a show of support. It would mean a lot to them.

In this light, it hardly matters if I know anybody there, or if I have someone to talk to or not. This is not about me at all. This is about their dream to finally have their first baby.

Quite frankly, this is a liberating thought…

Humbling too.

So even if I do indeed feel a little awkward there not knowing anybody, that’s ok, because I’m not the center of the event. Cool!

Isn’t it a relief to realize the universe doesn’t always revolve around us?
