Homemade Chocolate Chocolate-chip Banana Popsicles, No Added Sugar
Posted by
onOur homemade delicacy today is as easy as it is awesome, and can be whipped up in under 10 minutes.
We use simple, natural staples such as banana, cream and cocoa powder to create a decadent treat from scratch.
The sweetening is done by the banana alone, which means you should go for very ripe bananas, as they’re naturally sweeter.
On the same note, you can add more cocoa powder if you like a pronounced chocolatey flavor, or use less cocoa powder if you prefer only a light chocolatey presence. In fact, you can omit the chocolate altogether for banana-vanilla popsicles.
Unlike most store-bought popsicles, these ones retain a living flavor which I’ve rarely encountered in factory-made desserts.
Sweetened by: banana
Special equipment: stick blender/blender, 4-5 popsicle molds
Preps: 10 minutes (freeze time: 3 hours)
Makes: 4-5 popsicles
You will need:
1 ½ very ripe bananas peeled and broken into small chunks
1 cup whipping cream
¼ cup milk
1 tbsp. cocoa powder, or to taste
1-2 squares dark chocolate, chopped into flakes (for chocolate chips)
Optional: a couple of drops pure vanilla extract
How to make it:
1. Blend the bananas, whipping cream, milk, cocoa powder, and vanilla till smooth.
2. Add chocolate flakes into the mixture and stir for even distribution.
3. Put mixture in popsicle molds and freeze for about 3 hours.
The question remains though, why there are four popsicles in the first picture but only two in the second.
Well, the rather obvious has happened… Someone -totally oblivious to the fact these were supposed to be photographed- helped themselves to two of the popsicles, and with a few noisy slurps reduced the fruit of my labor by half right there and then.
My suspicion falls on the child who came into the kitchen with chocolate smudges on her chin, and who snatched a third popsicle(!!) straight out of the plate a few seconds after I took the picture.
Conclusion: make double next time. (Or be faster with the pictures…)
With that, I will wish you a lovely weekend,
Didi
