Dried Fruit and Nut Mixture with No Added Sugar
Posted by

Akin to a trail mix or to a fruit-only Christmas mincemeat filling, this unique fruit salad is inspired by a special Passover fruit and nut paste, called Harosset.
A mixture of chopped nuts, chopped fresh and dried fruits, red wine and spices, will result in deep, rich flavors which will intensify even further the next day.
Useful tip:
It is highly recommended to soak the nuts in warm water overnight and roast them gently.
Sweetened by: fruit only
Preps: 15 minutes (optional fridge time: 1 hour)
Serves: 6-8
You will need:
1 ½ cups unsweetened raisins, soaked in water, chopped
20 unsweetened dried dates/prunes, pitted, soaked in water, chopped
20 unsweetened dried apricots, pitted, soaked in water, chopped
2 cups unsalted shelled walnut/pecan halves, soaked, lightly roasted, chopped
1 apple, cored and chopped
½ tsp. lemon zest
1 ½ cups red wine
A few squeezes fresh lemon
A pinch ground cinnamon
Optional: A pinch cloves (whole or ground)
How to make it:
1. Combine all ingredients in a bowl. Mix well with a spoon.
2. Refrigerate for an hour to let the flavors set.
Time to enjoy our fruity treat, and I will take this opportunity to wish you a beautiful weekend,
Didi
