A Side of Multicolor Steamed Carrots

Posted by Didi Gorman on

Carrots, carrots, carrots.

An easy-peasy side dish made entirely out of carrots is what I’m offering you today.

Compared to cooked vegetables, steamed veggies retain a livelier texture, color, and flavor.

Preps: 5 minutes (steaming time: 15-20 minutes)
Serves: 2-3

You will need:
6-7 multicolor carrots, sliced into rings
Water

Special equipment: steamer basket, a cooking pot (+ lid) deep enough to contain your steamer basket

How to make it:
1. Fill the pot with about half an inch of water. (Water shouldn’t touch the steamer, or the veggies at the bottom of the steamer will cook in boiling water rather than steam.)
2. Place carrots in steamer, cover with a lid.
3. Steam on high heat until carrots are tender. Check water level occasionally. Add water if necessary, to avoid burning.

And now, a nice surprise. You know that the process of steaming concentrates flavors, right? Right. And you also know that carrots are naturally sweetish, yes? So this means our side dish is rather on the sweet side of things, although it is entirely, completely, and absolutely a veggie!

I know, I know, the things that get me excited… Anyhoooo. Go enjoy your meal and I will use this opportunity to wish you a wonderful weekend,
